CALL TO ACTION
Tea is an important cultural symbol of resistance in Massachusetts (think Boston Tea Party). Take a photo with a mug that has a tea bag hanging over the side, either showing your face or simply wrapping your hands around the mug. SEE EXAMPLES ABOVE.

BACKGROUND
To frame this as patriotic non-compliance, we are drawing on how the Boston Tea Party is often held up in Massachusetts’ history as an example of people standing up to an authority that failed to protect their rights—and using that moment as a springboard for a tea-cup social media campaign that highlights our call for the Governor to resist unjust federal actions today.

SAMPLE CAPTION A

The Boston Tea Party was about more than just tea—it was about refusing to comply with an unjust government policy back in 1773. Today, we’re calling on our Governor to take action to protect our communities from harmful federal policies. Non-compliance isn’t lawlessness—it’s standing up for what’s right.

SAMPLE CAPTION B

More than 250 years later, we’re brewing our own tea and still saying “no” to any king—self-declared or otherwise. When tea hit the Boston Harbor in 1773, it was an act of defiance against the British crown. Today, Massachusetts Communities Action Network (MCAN) is calling for a new act of non-compliance: pushing back on harmful federal actions and asserting the sovereignty of our commonwealth.

I stand with MCAN in urging Governor Healey to uphold our state constitution and protect the people it was written for.
